- Covers a district or a whole country
- Can be made by connecting LANs of different locations
- Uses both wired and wireless transmission media
- Features
- Larger than LANs
- Wired or wireless or both
- Owned by a single or multiple organization
- Data transmission rate slower than LAN
- E.g.. telecom, traffic CCTV
WIDE AREA NETWORK
- largest computer network
- Not limited to a geographical location
- Interconnection of Network through out the world
- E.g.. internet
- Features
- Large area
- Data transmission rate is slowest
- Owned by multiple public organizations
- Wireless communication
- Cheaper and easier
